Kajiado Community Wells Project
Kajiado South, Kenya
Client
Kajiado Community Development Trust
⚠️The Challenge
Maasai pastoralist communities lacked access to safe water, relying on distant seasonal rivers. Women spent up to 6 hours daily collecting water. Traditional wells were unprotected and contaminated.
✓Our Solution
We constructed 6 shallow wells (40-60m) with India Mark II hand pumps, protected with concrete aprons and drainage. Each well serves 200-300 people. We trained local pump mechanics and water user committees for maintenance and management.
📊Results & Impact
- ▸1,800 people gained access to safe water
- ▸Water collection time reduced from 6 hours to 30 minutes
- ▸No waterborne disease outbreaks reported since completion
- ▸All 6 pumps operational after 18 months (100% success rate)
- ▸Community contributing to maintenance fund sustainably
