Machakos County Borehole Project
Machakos County, Kenya
Client
Machakos County Government
⚠️The Challenge
Machakos County faced severe water shortages affecting over 50,000 residents across 12 rural wards. Existing water sources were seasonal and contaminated, leading to waterborne diseases and forcing women and children to walk long distances for water.
✓Our Solution
Unihydro conducted comprehensive hydrogeological surveys to identify optimal drilling sites. We drilled 12 boreholes ranging from 80-180m depth, installed solar-powered pump systems, and constructed storage tanks and distribution points in each location.
📊Results & Impact
- ▸50,000+ residents now have reliable water access
- ▸Waterborne disease incidents reduced by 75%
- ▸Average water collection time reduced from 3 hours to 15 minutes
- ▸All boreholes equipped with solar pumps for sustainability
- ▸County saved 40% compared to initial budget estimates
