⚠️The Challenge
Working equines (donkeys, horses) in Turkana faced severe water stress, affecting their health and the livelihoods of communities dependent on them for transport and agriculture.
✓Our Solution
Installed 4 solar-powered borehole systems with animal drinking troughs alongside community water points. Each system designed to serve both human and animal needs with separate access points for hygiene.
📊Results & Impact
- ▸8,000+ working animals now have reliable water access
- ▸Equine health improved by 40% (reduced dehydration-related illness)
- ▸15,000 people benefited from community water points
- ▸System sustainability through community ownership model
- ▸Replicated as model project in other ASAL counties
